From New Chitose Airport to Noboribetsu Onsen, compare a reserved direct bus with a train connection at Minami-Chitose followed by a local bus from Noboribetsu Station. Choose using your flight arrival, the stop nearest your hotel and the hotel's check-in and dinner deadlines.
Noboribetsu Station is not in the onsen town. The local tourism association places the hot-spring town about 8 km from the station. A train search ending at Noboribetsu does not include that final road journey.
Choose the route for your arrival
- Fewer changes: a reserved airport bus. Consider it when a service fits your arrival and has seats to the onsen town. Check the walk or hotel pickup after your bus stop.
- A rail connection: train and local bus. Search New Chitose Airport → Minami-Chitose → Noboribetsu, then check the onward bus or arranged transport to your hotel.
- Several destinations: a rental car. It may fit a trip continuing to Shiraoi or Lake Toya. Include rental collection and parking, and compare public transport if the car would sit unused during your onsen stay.

Airport bus: check the service, stop and booking deadline
Donan Bus's intercity directory lists the Noboribetsu Onsen Airport service and the Hayabusa service. Check the chosen departure's actual stops: Noboribetsu Onsen and Noboribetsu Station are different destinations.
The operator's November 2026 timetable and fare sheet applies a ¥2,200 adult one-way B fare between the onsen town and New Chitose Airport. This is explicitly for November 2026, not a fare promise for every travel month.
The airport-to-onsen route page states that online bookings close two hours before the service leaves its starting point. International and domestic terminal stops have different departure times. Leave time to reach the stop on your booking, including a terminal transfer if needed.
Check the conditions for changes, cancellation, luggage and a delayed flight before booking. Do not assume the bus will wait for your aircraft; contact the operator and your hotel if you will miss it.
Train: change at Minami-Chitose, then continue beyond the station
JR Hokkaido's airport guide identifies Minami-Chitose as the transfer for Noboribetsu, Toya and Hakodate. This is a different route from first travelling into Sapporo. Search from New Chitose Airport to Noboribetsu for your date.
- Take a train from New Chitose Airport to Minami-Chitose.
- Connect to a limited express that stops at Noboribetsu, checking the actual train and connection.
- At Noboribetsu Station, change to the local bus or your arranged pickup or taxi.
- Continue from your chosen stop to the hotel on foot or by its confirmed transfer.
JR Hokkaido's limited expresses have operated with all reserved seating since 14 March 2026. Reserve a seat if you need a guaranteed place to sit. A seat-unspecified ticket is also offered under separate conditions, without a seat guarantee; read JR's ticket guidance rather than using an old non-reserved-seat itinerary.
The local bus has different payment rules
Donan Bus's station-to-onsen route page lists an adult one-way fare of ¥450 to the Noboribetsu Onsen stop. It says transport IC cards such as Suica and Kitaca are not accepted on these services; NA and NB services accept Visa contactless payment. This was checked on 16 October 2026. Prepare an accepted payment method rather than assuming your rail card covers the bus.
Journey time depends on the departure and final stop. Look up the exact pair of stops rather than treating a route-heading duration as the time to every hotel. If your hotel offers a pickup, confirm the meeting place and whether it needs a booking.
Work backwards from ryokan dinner
Ask for the latest check-in and the dinner start time separately. Being able to check in late does not necessarily mean a dinner booking can be served late.
Allow for leaving the aircraft, immigration if applicable, baggage collection, waiting for transport, changes and the final journey to your accommodation. Compare the resulting hotel arrival with its deadlines. If they do not fit, check whether you can change the meal arrangement or the first night's accommodation.
For an evening arrival, establish that onward services and hotel reception fit before committing. An airport-area night followed by travel the next morning is another option. Our late-arrival guide explains what to check; it does not assume seats or rooms will be available.
Driving and the journey back to the airport
For a car, search from the actual rental office to your hotel address. If using Drive Plaza for an interchange-to-interchange result, add the ordinary roads at both ends. A door-to-door route already includes those roads; add only time not covered, such as breaks, fuel and parking.
Winter conditions and closures can change the plan. Compare reserved transport or rail if you have little experience driving on snow. The Hokkaido driving-time guide explains how to turn a route estimate into a full travel day.
For the return, work backwards from your airline's deadlines. Check that day's onsen-to-station bus and rail connections via Minami-Chitose, or the direct airport bus. With a rental car, include fuel, return formalities and the transfer from the office to your terminal. If no suitable service reaches an early flight, consider moving the final night closer to the airport.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a direct bus from New Chitose to Noboribetsu Onsen?
Reserved services stopping in the onsen town are an option. Check your date, seats and exact drop-off stop. The rail route needs a change at Minami-Chitose and onward road transport after Noboribetsu Station.
Which route is cheapest?
Compare the bus fare for your date with the total rail fare, limited-express charge and local bus. For driving, include rental, tolls, fuel and parking. Party size and ticket conditions change the comparison, so there is no single cheapest option for everyone.
Can I walk from Noboribetsu Station to the onsen?
The onsen town is about 8 km away. This guide plans that leg by bus or arranged transport, particularly with luggage or winter conditions. Include it in your hotel arrival time.
What if I also want to visit Sapporo and Otaru?
Treat an airport-to-onsen arrival day separately from a transfer after visiting the cities. Our Otaru and Sapporo to Noboribetsu guide covers the latter. The five-day itinerary offers a broader road-trip plan; use the Noboribetsu town guide for the destination itself.
